Editors’ List: Special Recognition (2021)

Our company is built on culture. Our CEO, DeLinda Forsythe, founded Innovative Commercial Environments to be an empowered and safe work environment for women. Since then, we have continued to develop a culture of kindness and respect that encourages entrepreneurialism and boundary pushing. In 2017, we hired an outside firm to help us formalize and improve employee engagement. Out of this process arose an employee-led culture committee and a greater commitment to our employees. Despite a sudden drop in furniture demand, we weathered 2020 without single layoff.

Meet DeLinda Forsythe of Innovative Commercial Environments in Carmel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeLinda Forsythe.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

It wasn’t that I had set out to help people build environments that they love. After all, my education was as a Dance major from UC Irvine.

My first career was dance, theatre and acting. For 8 years, I worked in dance. When I injured myself in my late 20s, I realized I had to change my career ...

I’ve worked in the furniture field for nearly thirty years now. Eleven of those years have been as the owner of my own business – Innovative Commercial Environments (ICE).
